Like any other suburb, even Williamson County has its own problems. But the Growth Summit here was focused on transportation and its challenges that are being faced by the suburban communities here.
The panel in the Growth Summit included prominent personalities such as the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Executive Director Mike Heiligenstein and RideScout LLC founder Joseph Kopser.
Next important speaker was Uber Technologies Inc. Texas External Affairs Director Leandre Johns in addition to ArgoDesign’s Jared Ficklin, who is now looking at resolving transportation issues in Central Austin through product design.
He is proposing unique as well as innovative solutions such as having an aerial gondola system. Hence the Williamson County Growth Summit was a talent pool that comprised of knowledgeable and highly experienced people.
People were expecting interesting output at this summit being held at the Sheraton Georgetown Texas Hotel & Conference Center, and they were not disappointed. The discussion here was keenly focused on technology since it is changing the face of transportation in this Austin region and rather, across the globe.
Mike Heiligenstein, who is the executive director of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, gave his views too at this 19th annual Williamson County Growth Summit. He spoke about the new technologies first.
This is because he wanted to create a foundation first. He wanted people to know what new things are coming in due to innovative technology and how they need to prepare for it. After all, this is not an option anymore. Places like Williamson County need to gear up as they are seeing more and more people coming in to settle there.
According to Crunchbase, Mike Heiligenstein spoke about a complete reform of the transportation infrastructure. There were specific references made to driverless vehicles along with the advent of ridesharing apps.
He spoke about how Austin area has invested a lot in its transportation infrastructure. But more needs to be done. This means more roads, and these specifically need to be smarter roads.

Mike Heiligenstein spoke about subsidies. He also spoke about first mile and last mile connectivity. This is because people love their cars. Next step is to create options for people. They should be willing to take the public transport system once they know that first mile and last mile connectivity issues are taken care of.
